So now what? Where are we going from here?
Well, as many of you know, Karen works as a nurse for Public Health and Indigenous Services Canada. She flies to Fort Hope every other month to bring necessary medical support to the First Nations community there. She loves it although it can be very demanding at times. Last fall she went for the first time thinking it would just be a one-off or once-in-awhile commitment. But God had other plans. While she was up there, God broke her heart for the community and began to forge a call in her to be a blessing and a person of hope and comfort there.
Allen has supported her a hundred percent. Thank God for Zoom and the internet so they can connect daily for prayer and catching up, not to mention plan a wedding.
Allen is involved with Agora Network Ministries as well as his own business AKD Communication Solutions. The business is a slow go especially with COVID. He has also been volunteering and supporting Northend Church through participating in the worship ministry. But God has also been drawing him back to considering the call to return to pastoring in some form.
Karen and Allen find themselves in a place of deep discernment as to what their life may be like once they’re married. What will it look like with Karen heading north 6 months of the year while Allen works at home? God in his infinite wisdom only knows. There seems to be some doors opening with potential for ministry together in some way. As Allen often says, “We just need to be faithful and wait on God, and be responsible for our part. God will unfold the rest as we take steps in faith.”
The couple are both very committed to two ministries in particular, Global Shore Opportunities, a ministry in Guatemala, and Agora Network Ministries helping churches alleviate the stigma of mental health.
So, Allen and Karen are not fully certain what the future holds. However, they do know who holds it and are content with seeking the will of God for their lives wherever that leads trusting in his provision.
